An award-winning Bay Area artist and resident, Lu Beury received her BA from Pennsylvania State University and went on to study painting at San Francisco Institute of Art, California College of Arts and Crafts and UC Berkeley.
Lu creates visually stunning pieces of art intertwining metallic forms with random streaks and shapes, capturing the essence of different textures and patinas such as the bark of trees, chipped paint and rusted iron. Her latest series is called “Odes to Life” and the forms and textures are brought to life with thick paint, textiles, gesso, sand, paper, layering texture and form with metallic paints. Lu says “Hopefully the resulting compositions exude energy and excitement and evoke a joyous response from my viewers!”
She gets much of her inspiration from nature as evidenced by titles such as Laterite, Copper Lode and Emerald Forest. Consequently many of her paintings can be hung vertical or horizontal – in the eye of the beholder.
Lu has exhibited in several Bay Area galleries including Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, Worth Ryder Gallery in Berkeley and Hall Wines in St. Helena as well as Hunter Kirkland Contemporary in Santa Fe and Modern Masters Gallery in Palm Desert. Recent solo exhibitions include Walt Wines in Sonoma.
