An award-winning Bay Area artist and resident, Paul Kratter was born in San Francisco and has a degree in Graphic Arts from College of San Mateo and a B.A. in Illustration from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.
After an interesting and diverse career in illustration, he became interested in the immediacy and spontaneity of the Plein Air approach and started painting in the East Bay Hills near his home. Painting outdoors has become his passion and he participates in a number of plein air events annually throughout California. Paul enjoys the challenge of various weather conditions and the ever changing light and atmosphere. He tries to determine what is going to change the quickest so he can capture the feeling of the painting. He usually finishes his paintings on location so he can keep the fresh spontaneous feel.
Paul exhibits in several Bay Area galleries including Nancy Dodds in Carmel, Christopher Queen Gallery in Duncan Mills, Renditions Gallery in Walnut Creek and Lee Youngman Gallery in Calistoga. He also regularly participates in the Sonoma and Laguna Plein Air Invitationals.
